How to Complete a Manual Handling Course, Start to End

The full journey from enrolment to certificate: choose your option, fill in your details and pay, work through the modules, pass the test, complete the practical assessment if it's part of your option, and receive your certificate.

Step 1 — Choose your course option

Go to the Courses page and pick the option that suits you: Manual Handling Theory Only (€30) or Manual Handling Theory + Practical Assessment (€40). Both include all course modules, the theory test and your verifiable digital certificate. The practical option adds a filmed lift assessment reviewed by our certified instructor.

Started with theory only? You can add the practical assessment later from your certificate page for €10 — your completed modules and test results carry over automatically.

Step 2 — Fill in your personal details and pay

Click Enrol and the enrolment form opens. No account or password is needed — your personal access link is your key to the course.

  1. 1

    Enter your details

Full name, phone number, email address and postal address. These appear on your certificate, so make sure the name matches your ID.

  2. 2

    Take a quick selfie

Use your webcam or phone camera to take a head-and-shoulders photo, following the on-screen guide. It is used for your certificate records.

  3. 3

    Review the fee and pay

The course cost is shown before you pay, and any discount code is applied to the total. Pay securely by card — no card details are stored by us.

  4. 4

    Check your email

After payment, a secure access link to your course is sent to your email address.

Step 3 — Start the course

Open the access link, choose your course language — English, Romanian, Russian, Polish, Bulgarian, Spanish or Portuguese — and press Start Course. The course page shows one simple progress line at the top: Start, Module 1 to Module 4, Test, Practical (if your option includes it) and Certification. Each step turns green as you complete it, so you always know where you are.

Step 4 — Watch the module videos

Each module is a set of short videos with voiceover covering the law, how injuries happen, risk assessment and safe lifting technique. Use the Next and Back buttons to move between videos. A module turns green with a tick only after you have watched every video in it — that's how you know it counts as complete.

Step 5 — Take the theory test

The test shows one question at a time with Next and Back buttons. After the final question you see the full result: every question marked correct or incorrect, the correct answer for anything you missed, and a button to jump back to the module you should review. If you don't pass, you can retake the test as many times as you need at no extra cost. The Test step turns green once you reach the pass mark, or red if you need to try again.

Step 6 — Complete the practical assessment (if included)

If your option includes the practical assessment, watch the instruction video and read the notes in the Practical step, then record yourself performing a safe lift directly from the page using your camera — or upload a video you recorded earlier. Our certified instructor reviews your lift and approves it or invites you to retake it. See our practical assessment guide for full instructions.

Step 7 — Receive your certificate

Once every required step is green, your certificate is generated instantly on your certificate page. It shows your name, your scores and your photo (if a photo was taken), and is ready to download, print and share with your employer.

  • Unique certificate number and QR code for instant online verification
  • Valid for three years from the date of issue
  • Issued in English, the standard expected by Irish employers
  • Anyone — including your employer — can verify it online without a login
